As established training providers, and active in our support for the Yachting Community, we have been aware of the work of the Professional Yachting Association (PYA) for many years. It is therefore our privilege to announce our partnership with the PYA and our establishment as the Regional Office for Palma.
The PYA, founded in 1991, exists to represent the interests of professional yacht crew worldwide. The organisation helps its members by providing accurate, unbiased advice on certification, training, welfare, and regulations.
The PYA is the ONLY organisation committed to helping professional yacht crew in this way and Aigua Sea School is the ONLY RYA training centre in partnership with the PYA here in Mallorca, and the only Regional Office. Our team will be trained to provide the additional services to the professionals working within the yachting industry in the Balearics.
The PYA was the first organisation appointed to verify sea service on behalf of the MCA; using a Service Record Book (SRB) issued by the PYA, continues to be the MCA’s preferred method of recording and presenting sea time. In 2004, the PYA developed the MCA OOW (Yacht) Training Record Book in consultation with the MCA. This included the Yacht Rating Training Record Book, leading to Yacht Rating Certification, assisting the manning regulations for crew.
In 2011 the PYA GUEST program developed bespoke industry standards of training and certification for interior crew. Aigua works in association with a number of GUEST approved training centres already, including Palma based ‘VIP Service School‘ under the experienced command of Hazel Anderson. In 2015 the PYA consulted with the MCA for the development of MSN1859 and 1858, engineering and deck. This includes the new Commercial Engineering qualifications due to launch. Aigua Sea School will be in place to advise on this new legislation.
We will be making further announcements as to how our establishment as a regional office will benefit you please stand by to receive news and updates.
