Own boat tuition
Other Motor Cruising Adventure Courses
Own boat tuition is a great way of getting to know your own boat better: “drive” more efficiently in terms of fuel usage, understand the electrical and safety system onboard and, often more importantly, ‘park’ the yacht better. We can tailor the training schedule to meet your individual requirements. The course is subject to our instructor being happy that your boat is seaworthy, fully insured for any incidents onboard, has all required boat papers and meets the safety guidelines of the RYA. We can come and visit you onboard and chat about the training you require. There must be a serviced life jacket available for each person onboard during the training. For full details of flares, fire extinguishers, VHF radio, TPAs and other safety gear required to deem your vessel ‘sea worthy’ please contact the Aigua Sea School office. Pricing is from €490 per day, including all relevant taxes, increasing by 15% per day for each additional student if three or more onboard.
Coastal Skipper Motor Cruising
A five-day course for the more ambitious motor cruising skipper wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night. On the course each trainee will skipper a passage in a variety of situations and learn more about safety, passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling and emergency situations. RYA guidelines recommend that you attend this course with some experience: 15 days at sea, two days as ‘skipper’, 300 miles sea miles logged and eight night hours.
Private Tuition Course
Private courses are a great way of enjoying a holiday whilst learning new skills with friends and family. Your instructor will talk with you about the week you are looking forward to and tailor a course that will suit you, whilst fulfilling the training syllabus according to the certificate you are hoping to achieve. You can learn on your own boat, a charter boat or one of our own fully equipped training monohulls or catamarans. This option is extremely popular with couples and families, especially for families with younger children. You get the most from your training whilst enjoying a family holiday.
If you only get the opportunity to cruise on a motor yacht a few weeks a year, or even less, it is a good idea to spend the first day of your charter with an instructor onboard. This day can be invaluable to ensure you get the most from your holiday. We can show you around your new boat, the safety gear and how to use the facilities onboard. The training will refresh your skills at berthing and anchoring, remind you how to complete the daily engine checks, and run through a couple of man overboard drills so you and your crew know exactly what to do in the worst case scenario. It really is worth it as you will feel so much more relaxed and confident whilst enjoying your yachting.
Start Motor Cruising
This is an entry level course and can be run in conjunction with higher level courses for mixed ability groups. This course is ideal for introducing friends or family members to being a useful member of crew onboard, and for giving them an understanding of how they can assist the helm and the routine activities onboard. The minimum age is eight years old so we will take candidates of this age if they are within a family group onboard. The syllabus covers personal safety onboard, seamanship, dealing with emergency situations, coming alongside or stern-to mooring as is popular in the Mediterranean harbours, picking up mooring buoys, anchoring skills and boat handling.
If you think this is the course for you, please call us and let’s arrange it for you.
This two-day course covers basic boat handling, helmsmanship, safety and basic engine maintenance. It is ideal for the new owner who is conscious of the difficulty and potential hazards of boat handling in the marina. This course is usually done on an ‘own boat’ basis as it is ideal for new owners to get to know their new motor cruiser.
This is a higher level course for people moving on from Day Skipper towards Coastal Skipper. Here at Aigua we are viewing this course as a good refresher course for candidates considering progressing into Yachtmaster training, and this two day course can be extremely useful for Yachtmasters who are converting from sail to motor qualifications. This course is also ideal for those who want to progress their night pilotage skills, but might not yet have the experience required for the Coastal Skipper course. Candidates should register for this course if they have boat handing skills to the level of Day Skipper; navigation theory knowledge at the standard of the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course; should hold a VHF/SRC certificate for Marine Radio and a First Aid qualification. All of these courses are available at Aigua Sea School. The syllabus of this intensive two day motor cruising training course includes: passage planning, preparation for sea, pilotage, passage making and responsibility as a skipper (daylight hours), use of radar, boat handling, dealing with adverse weather conditions, dealing with emergency situations and night cruising.

Best training in town! Thanks Aigua Sea School for the professional training I got over the past 2 years. You guys guided me from my PB2 to my Day Skipper and finally my Yachtmaster Offshore!! Amazing team, training and instructor.
The course was great. A really good mixture of practical experience and theory. I learnt a lot and I am much more comfortable with maneuvering a larger boat in a confined space. Gavin was very good. Very informative and helpful and also focused on the practicalities not just the theory. Also a very nice guy which…
I enjoyed the Day Skipper Motor course very much. Steve was a very good teacher and explained everything clearly and slowly while being patient.
I am a happy boater with what I did learn in your school now with my own 34 Faireline Targa.
