Day Skipper Sail Combo: combine theory and practical in one course
Day Skipper Sail Combo Course
What is the Day Skipper Sail Combo?
At Aigua Sea School we believe the RYA Day Skipper Practical Sailing course and navigation theory syllabus is the best in the world at this level, so we have developed an ‘Aigua Special’ and we call it our Day Skipper COMBO. We run the course over nine consecutive days:
- two days of navigation theory training (shorebased)
- followed by five days of practical sail training (onboard)
- and finishing off with two days of navigation theory training (shorebased)
…completing the Day Skipper/Watch Leader syllabus.
Why Sail with Aigua?
The coastal waters of Mallorca are stunning; white sandy anchorages, majestic mountain ranges, crystal clear waters, and what better way to explore them than by yacht, sailed there by you! You will drop anchor in secluded bays and navigate through islands, hop into harbours and pop into ports as you learn and develop your sailing skills. Later on in the week, when the crew are settled well into the yacht, you will join in with the night sail, preparing pilotage using buoyage and light houses to lead your way home.
Your comfort is well taken care of too, at Aigua Sea School we consider the make-up of the crew, and cabin allocation, to ensure that everyone enjoys the privacy they prefer.
Upon successful completion of the Day Skipper Sail Combo course you may be eligible for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC).
There will be some theory sessions on-board to satisfy the RYA guidelines on tuition hours to cover the theory syllabus. In the evenings, predominantly on ‘parts of the boat’ and ‘safety and seamanship’ that we believe are great when taught on-board, as you are there, you’re in it and you can touch all the bits! We find this is a great way to learn the skills of navigation in the classroom and further the new knowledge by putting it into practice in the very next days.
As an addition you can also add the online VHF DSC Marine Radio course to the programme and make your Day Skipper Sail Combo training adventure a ten-day feast of learning and new experiences, plus a lot of fun.

Fantastic 2 weeks starting off with the theory week with Nathan and going onto the sailing practical week with the infamous “Johnny B”. Everything was very well organised from start to finish. We all had plenty of helm time to get comfortable handling a 40′ catamaran under power and sail. Both my wife and I…
This is a shout out to Johnny Breslin and the Aigua Sea School for an incredibly well organised and informative week on my RYA Day Skipper practical course. I was a rather late candidate but the team in the office did everything to make the transition on to the boat as smooth as possible. Once…
From an instructor’s point of view, Aigua offers unparalleled facilities but, more importantly, a very good support system which means we can offer great service to the students. When you couple that with their diligence and integrity you can be sure of being in safe hands.
Day Skipper was really a really cool course. where many sailing sailing techniques have been spent, with fully practical lessons on a super comfortable sailboat and sailing through wonderful places. It’s really worth taking a course with Aigua Sea School … very good.
