Start Yachting with a fun two-day introduction to sailing – fancy giving it a go?
Start Yachting Course
The RYA ‘Start Yachting’ course is a two-day introductory course where you can answer that question you’ve often asked yourself … “what’s it like to go sailing?”
Seen the sun-drenched images of the yacht sailing away on the horizon, and always wondered what that feels like? Here’s your way to find out!
So, how does the Start Yachting course go?
Both days will start at a leisurely 09:30hrs and you’ll receive a safety briefing first. This will ensure you feel relaxed in the knowledge that your personal safety is of paramount to your instructor. Throw off the bowlines and set sail into Palma Bay for a morning of sailing techniques and understanding how the sails work with the wind.
Around lunchtime, you will drop the anchor over white sand in a sheltered anchorage to enjoy a Mediterranean style lunch onboard. Of course, you can take a swim should the waters be at a comfortable temperature, but please be sure to pack a beach towel.
After a relaxed lunch you’ll spend the afternoons sailing in the Bay of Palma. Sleeping onboard is optional, so you can retire to your villa or hotel at the end of each day if you prefer. You’ll do a little bit of everything over the two days, from rope work to helming and from hoisting sails to changing tack; it’s a great taster of what could potentially become the love of your life!

Fantastic 2 weeks starting off with the theory week with Nathan and going onto the sailing practical week with the infamous “Johnny B”. Everything was very well organised from start to finish. We all had plenty of helm time to get comfortable handling a 40′ catamaran under power and sail. Both my wife and I walked away feeling very satisfied with overall package. We can definitely recommend Aigua Sea School for all your yacht training. Thanks for a great time Werner and Janet.
This is a shout out to Johnny Breslin and the Aigua Sea School for an incredibly well organised and informative week on my RYA Day Skipper practical course. I was a rather late candidate but the team in the office did everything to make the transition on to the boat as smooth as possible.
Once I arrived on the Catamaran to take part in the Day Skipper Qualification, Johnny Breslin (the instructor) welcomed me right on board and professionally covered all the elements of what was to be expected during the course. Johnny is one of the most experienced seaman I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting and his vast knowledge on all aspects of the ocean was perfectly explained and demonstrated.
All along he made the course enjoyable during every theory session and all the practical manoeuvring. I felt I was always learning something new and you could go to him with any question/query you may have had. He controlled the dynamics of the crew very well and ensured the boat was comfortable and every crew member had all the relevant materials on board.
Overall, I couldn’t recommend Johnny and the Sea School enough for everything they have done to make this course extremely worthwhile in my progression in the yachting industry.
From an instructor’s point of view, Aigua offers unparalleled facilities but, more importantly, a very good support system which means we can offer great service to the students.
When you couple that with their diligence and integrity you can be sure of being in safe hands.
Day Skipper was really a really cool course. where many sailing sailing techniques have been spent, with fully practical lessons on a super comfortable sailboat and sailing through wonderful places. It’s really worth taking a course with Aigua Sea School … very good.
