Yachtmaster Theory Workshops: an Aigua Sea School Special
Yachtmaster Nautical Theory Workshops
All are welcome to our regular nautical theory workshops. Relaxed and informal sessions where we cover, what we fondly refer to as, ‘the basics’:
- from buoyage and lights
- to vessel day shapes
- fog signals
- flags and
- nautical etiquette
We explore a nautical chart, use a 5011, calculate magnetic variation and understand, and plot, latitude and longitude.
In these theory workshops you will learn about general seamanship and awareness, how to create pilotage plans and we can answer all your questions about the Yachtmaster examinations ahead.
Aigua theory workshops are always free-of-charge and always have been since we first introduced them back in 2008.
The workshops run for around an hour and a half, usually on a Wednesday, the week before each scheduled Yachtmaster navigation theory course.
If the first session piques your interest, or you become aware of the fact that you need to study more before starting your Yachtmaster training, we will schedule further sessions to revise ‘course to steer’ and ‘estimated position’ tidal calculations taking care to use the correct chart symbols. You’ll also learn where to find tidal information from almanacs so we can calculate tidal heights in standard and secondary ports.
Why do we run free of charge workshops?
Originally established to give a boost to the new Yachtmaster candidates, we built on the idea to include all Aigua students. Even ‘Officer of the Watch’ candidates attend to keep their navigation skills up to speed!
The sessions are run by me, Linda (school principal), and it gives me the opportunity to get to know you so that my team and I can best support you through your training program. Our international students find these sessions particularly useful, as it provides a helpful revision of nautical English.
‘Like’ Aigua Sea School on Facebook as we always publish the workshops dates there, and you can book your space directly via the website on the dates below.

Great school, courses and facilities offered with instructors who are passionate about what they are teaching and students’ learning and career progression. The extra knowledge, time and guidance that Linda gives students, particularly through her Navigation workshops is so valuable. It is no wonder why Aigua Sea School is the go to choice for Yachtmasters…
From an instructor’s point of view, Aigua offers unparalleled facilities but, more importantly, a very good support system which means we can offer great service to the students. When you couple that with their diligence and integrity you can be sure of being in safe hands.
Thanks for everything during the two weeks I spent with you guys. It was a lot of information to take on and was a great feeling to complete the course on Sunday afternoon. I felt well prepared for the exam and found it to be a straight forward process. The examiner was great.
Just finished a week of Yachtmaster Ocean Theory with Simon Bradshaw at Aigua, and yet again, Aigua has not failed to deliver on top quality tuition, support and smiles throughout the whole week! Fantastic school and I could not recommend them enough!
