Day Skipper Motor
To succeed within the Day Skipper practical syllabus it is expected that you have some theory knowledge.
We’re partnered with a fantastic online course provider called Skippers Online. If you’d prefer to study in your own time, from the comfort of your own, then the online theory course could be the best option for you.
Alternatively, we can run Day Skipper theory weekends either side of most practical courses. We refer to the Day Skipper theory weekend/Day Skipper sail practical combined courses as the ‘COMBO’. Please do discuss this with us as it is a great opportunity to achieve the complete Day Skipper certification in one 9-day programme.
In stockPlease note that full payment is required two weeks prior to the course start date.

You will meet your instructor at 09:00hrs at the marina, you will leave home berth on Monday and stay in other harbours and/or anchorages.
DAY 1- DAY 4
You will return to the base port each day after training.
One evening will be spent night sailing, a truly wonderful experience where you will be in charge of the yacht on a navigation exercise.
You'll receive your certification of completion for the course!
The Day Skipper Motor syllabus prepares you to skipper a yacht:
- Preparation for sea
- Deck work
- Rules of the road
- Maintenance and repair work
- Emergency situations
- Yacht handling under power
- Passage making
- Night cruising
- And how to command your crew
One evening of the course will involve a night sail training exercise. Night training usually takes place towards the end of the week, when everyone feels very comfortable around the yacht. The night sail usually takes you into Palma harbour where the lights of the capital will both bewilder and enchant you .. a truly amazing experience.
Joining the yacht on a Monday morning and after starting your course with a full safety brief, the yacht will set sail from Portals harbour, its base port, and sail off “to explore, dream and discover”. You will journey where the wind takes you, either heading to the south west of the island to visit ports such as Adriano, Santa Ponsa, Port Andratx and the quaint Sant Elm by the mighty Dragonera island; or heading towards the east with the opportunity to sail to the marine nature reserve of the Cabrera archipelago and stay an evening in the lagoon. This RYA course is very much about ‘why’ you sail as well as ‘how’ and to further develop your sailing and skippering skills.
In order to achieve the Day Skipper Motor licence, you also need to have a good level of theory knowledge, we recommend the Skippers Online Day Skipper Theory course. Contact the Aigua Sea School team for more information.
