RYA approved training vessel, RYA qualified Yachtmaster Instructor and fuel during the training session. Examiner travel expenses, exam time onboard and fuel is provided free of charge. The only additional cost is the exam fee, which is to be paid directly by candidate to the RYA.
A Yachtmaster candidate is expected to hold the recommended pre-exam experience; to include a minimum of 2,500 sea miles (at least 1,250 from tidal waters and at least 1,250 in vessels less than 24m) with skippering experience as detailed in the RYA guidance notes. A Yachtmaster™ Offshore is competent to skipper a cruising yacht on any passage during which the yacht is no more than 150 miles from a safe haven.
A candidate must present a GMDSS compliant marine radio licence, and a valid First Aid course completion certificate, to the examiner at the start of the exam. Aigua Sea School can assist with both items; please let us know when you book your training with us, so we can make the arrangements for you. The examiner may ask to see proof of sea miles; please have a log book and/or testimonials available. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the sea school office team.

Theory classes will run approximately 09:00hrs to 18:00hrs

If you are taking the exam on Saturday, allow a full day to ensure you receive the full allocated time for each exam section.

Practical training will run over five days, approximately 09:00hrs to 18:00hrs but be aware that start times will vary to allow for the night training hours.
EXAM SESSION: DAY 12- DAY 14
To adhere to RYA/MCA guidelines, we allow at least 48-hours for the exam session. Please do not make travel/work arrangements without consulting the school office.
Course Details
Navigation theory training covers 40 hours of tuition, from Monday to Friday. The invigilation of the shorebased exam takes place on the sixth day, (Saturday). The shorebased course certificate can only be awarded upon successful completion of the exam. The certificate is not required by the independent examiner.
Practical training runs from Monday to Friday of the following week. Night training exercises will take place on one evening of the training week. Start times will vary to allow for the night training hours. Some theory sessions will be revised each day of the practical course.
The ultimate exam will include an assessment of your skippering skills, boat handling, general seamanship, navigation, safety awareness and knowledge of the IRPCS and meteorology. You will be provided with a copy of the full Yachtmaster syllabus for your reference.
Every candidate brings their own experiences and knowledge to the exam preparation courses; it is important to appreciate the high level of commitment required to achieve this highly regarded international certificate of competence. You are encouraged to continue your own studies in addition to classroom hours; the Aigua Sea School team are happy to assist with additional homework and/or advice.
