A Yachtmaster candidate is expected to hold the recommended pre-exam experience; to include a minimum of 2,500 sea miles (at least 1,250 from tidal waters and at least 1,250 in vessels less than 24m) with skippering experience as detailed in the RYA guidance notes. Please discuss with the Aigua Sea School office team if you have any queries.
A Yachtmaster™ Offshore is competent to skipper a cruising yacht on any passage during which the yacht is no more than 150 miles from a safe haven.
A candidate must present a GMDSS compliant marine radio licence, and a valid First Aid course completion certificate, to the examiner at the start of any practical exam. Aigua Sea School can assist with both items; please let us know when you book your training with us, so we can make the arrangements for you. The examiner may ask to see proof of sea miles; please have a log book and/or testimonials available. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the sea school office team.

Theory classes will run approximately 09:00hrs to 18:00hrs
If you are taking the exam on Saturday, allow a full day to ensure you receive the full allocated time for each exam section.
Navigation theory training covers 40 hours of tuition, from Monday to Friday. The invigilation of the shorebased exam takes place on the sixth day, (Saturday). The shorebased course certificate can only be awarded upon successful completion of the exam. The certificate is not required by the independent examiner.
